Apple is taking the desktop world by storm with the debut of Apple Silicon chips in Mac computers. In M1 Pro processors
Today, The Information reported that Apple is not going to slow down and plans to release even faster second and third generation chips in the coming years.
Chips M1, M1 Pro and M1 Max are manufactured according to5-nanometer process technology. The report says Apple will release the second generation of Apple Silicon chips in 2022 using an improved 5nm process technology. Thus, the performance and efficiency gains over the M1 generation will be relatively small.
What is much more interesting, The Information publicationadds information that Apple and its foundry partner TSMC plan to release 3-nanometer chips for Mac computers as early as 2023, with a total of up to 40 processor cores per chip. The three versions of the third-generation chip are reportedly codenamed “Ibiza”, “Lobos” and “Palma”.
The iPhone is also expected to switch to 3nm chips in 2023, allowing Apple to maintain its lead in silicon performance in the smartphone market.
