4 Russian universities entered the top 100 global university rankings

The top 100 of the overall RUR Ranking university ranking includes Moscow State University (70th place), National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (96th place), MIPT (97th place) and Tomsk

State University (TSU, 100th place). Last year, only Moscow State University was among the top 100; it ranked 91st in the ranking. 

Top three this year, same as last yearAmerican universities form the California Institute of Technology, Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). At the same time, the first two switched places, and MIT ousted Stanford University from the top three.

High results were shown by Russian universities andsubject rankings. For example, Moscow State University is among the top 100 universities in life sciences (Life Science) and, together with TSU, in the humanities. In addition, four Russian universities each entered the top 100 in the areas of natural and technical sciences. In the first case, these are MEPhI, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Tomsk State University and Tomsk Polytechnic University, and in the second - St. Petersburg University ITMO, TSU, Moscow State University and MEPhI.

The RUR ratings are based on a rating mechanism andcomparative analysis of InCites, developed by Thomson Reuters for scientific research. The initial data for the rating is collected annually from April to May as part of a special study by the Global Institutional Profiles Project (GIPP). The rating is formed on the basis of 20 indicators divided into four groups: teaching, research, international diversity and financial stability.
