500 thousand km of roads for autonomous transport will be put on the map with an accuracy of up to a centimeter

Drive Map is a mapping platform that will help accelerate the emergence of autonomous vehicles

means of the 3rd and 4th levels on the roads.Autonomous systems will have detailed information about their surroundings and will be able to make relevant, safe decisions for all road users and pedestrians.

The platform is based on DeepMap startup technology. In it, employees developed highly detailed maps for autonomous cars. Now, this imaging technology will be packaged into dedicated vehicles that will run a separate crowdsourced mapping engine for passenger cars. The drones will feed the combined road data back to the cloud to create a digital road map for North America, Europe and Asia.

The map will have layers for cameras, radars and lidarsystems. The artificial intelligence (AI) driving the vehicle can take data from the camera layer to track road markings, traffic lights and signs, or data from the radar layer in low light. Or from lidar to get a highly detailed image with a resolution of 5 cm.

According to NVIDIA, Drive Map will cover 500,000 km of roads around the world by 2024. It will be constantly updated so that it can be used for all autonomous vehicles.
