It will pass only 90 thousand km from our planet. For comparison, this is 23% of the average distance between the Earth and
According to NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory calculations, an asteroid called 2022 NF will fly by our planet without hitting it.
Astronomers have discovered 2022 NF using data from the Pan-STARRS telescope and ground response system, a collection of cameras and telescopes that aim to capture near-Earth objects.
On July 4, 2022, the researchers identified the object, calculated its approximate size and trajectory. According to them, it is from 5.5 to 12.5 meters wide.
2022 NF is small so it doesn't fall underthe criteria for a potentially hazardous asteroid set by NASA. The Virtual Telescope project will be broadcasting the asteroid's flight live from its telescope in Rome starting at 4 pm ET (0800 UTC).
