Florida Power & Light introduced a new unmanned aerial vehicle. It is designed to fly in conditions
It is no coincidence that the drone was presented right now:Hurricane season will soon begin in the Atlantic. The FPLAir One model is equipped with a fixed wing designed for flight in tropical storm conditions.
The drone itself resembles a small plane andcontrolled remotely. The software captures and transmits images and videos of damaged electrical equipment in real time to a dedicated command center. It flies up to 1,600 km at a time - enough to explore the entire territory of Florida twice immediately after devastating storms.
"Instead of going out and tryingfigure out what's going on, we can save hours and days to turn on the lights sooner," said Eric Silagy, chairman and CEO of Florida Power and Light in an interview with The Associated Press.
The drone can be deployed even during a severe storm. The data obtained will help ground crews navigate.
Unlike satellites, the drone operates under cloud cover, remaining in the air for 22 hours without refueling.
