Giant tree moth (Endoxyla cinereus) -the largest species of moth in the world. According to the Australian Museum, at maturity females, which are about twice the size of males, can weigh up to 30 grams and have a wingspan reaches 25 centimeters. They live in the forests of Australia and New Zealand.
Construction workers working in a public schoolMount Cotton, discovered a giant female tree moth on the site of a new school building on the edge of the rainforest. After photographing the impressive find, construction workers returned the moth to the wild.
The larvae of these large insectsburrow into eucalyptus trees, and a year later reappear in the form of caterpillars. Then they descend to the ground, where they feed on the roots of the tree. The caterpillars then appear in their gigantic final form.

Having appeared, smaller males can fly onshort distances and look for females on the ground to mate with. If reproduction is successful, the female lays about 20,000 tiny eggs, which hatch and develop into larvae. Butterflies rarely come across to humans for a simple reason - they die quickly after extremely vigorous mating.
