A jet-powered stunt truck went out of control and crashed at an airshow in Battle Creek, California.
The accident occurred “during the pyrotechnic part”summer air show in Battle Creek, CNN reports, citing law enforcement agencies. Footage taken by airshow attendee Mike Westra shows the truck carrying two planes down the runway before spinning and crashing. From another angle, a parachute can be seen opening behind the truck right before the accident.
At the same time, a thick plume of black smoke and fire -part of the show's pyrotechnic display and had nothing to do with the accident, Michael Westra noted in an interview with CNN. The fact is that the footage also shows smoke and fire even before the truck loses control.
According to the company website, SHOCKWAVE Jet Truckcapable of reaching speeds of more than 560 km/h. The truck was driven by Chris Darnell (Darnell Racing Enterprises of Springfield, Missouri). In a statement, Darnell's father, Neil Darnell, said the accident was "the result of a mechanical failure."
The incident is being investigated by the Battle Creek Police and Fire Department, police said.

The first truck was simply called Shockwave. It traveled at a speed of 605 km/h, making it the fastest full-size jet-powered truck in the world.
It had three Westinghouse J34-48 jet engines with a total output of 36,000 horsepower (26,845 kW; 36,499 hp), allowing it to travel 400 m in 6.63 seconds.
The driver who recently died drove one of these trucks at many air shows throughout the year. He also used the truck to race airplanes on the runway and often won.
The destroyed truck consumed 1,500 liters of fuel at 1,600 m. At the end of the race, the truck needed two aircraft parachutes to brake.
