A microchip in the shape of a helicopter has appeared. This is the smallest flying structure in the world.

Electronic devices are becoming smaller, despite the complexity of their design. The result is

portable, convenient electronics, non-invasive gadgets and compact environmental monitoring tools.

The authors of the new work studied how quickly andIt’s easy to monitor the environment: sensors need to be wisely distributed so that they give the most objective picture. Previously, scientists, for example, proposed dropping small drones from the air to take measurements.

But the authors of the new work came up with their own uniqueway —they noticed how trees smoothly shed their seeds: they are shaped like tiny propellers, so they can catch the wind and land slowly and smoothly.

During their work, the researchers developedcrushed devices with similar aerodynamics. Microfiber consists of electronic components that are centrally placed on a rubber backing. The device has a low center of gravity so it can float in the wind. Microchip dimensions are less than 1 mm in diameter. According to the developers, this is the smallest flying structure.

The idea is that the device caneasy to airborne to monitor environmental conditions and control pollution. The team has equipped the devices with various sensors that can detect airborne contaminants, track pH balance or sun exposure.

Once the sensors are dropped, they will degrade naturally as they are made from degradable and non-toxic components.
