A new direction in the search for life: they will not be looking for it on Mars, but on its moons

Scientists are now conducting a study of the Jezero crater on the surface of Mars with the help of the Perseverance rover.This work

is  part of a joint effort by NASA and ESA (European Space Agency) to collect samples from Mars and  bring them back to  Earth.However, scientists from JAXA believe that in the search for evidence of life on the planet, it is necessary to focus on its moons - Phobos and Deimos. 

The fact is that both the moons of Mars — Phobos and Deimos — are smaller than the Moon of Earth, and they are also much closer to the planet.Due to resource constraints, probes sent to study the surface of Mars are being testedIf there is life or traces of it, it is not easy to find it even in small quantities.Therefore, scientists suggested that a probe on one of the moons of Mars could show better results.

For the future , JAXA has already planned the Martian Moons eXploration (MMX) mission, during which scientists will senda probe to Phobos to take samples and bring them back to Earth before the end of the decade.The project is scheduled for 2024.
