A new hologram can touch your hands

The authors called the new development aerohaptics or aerogaptics. It has 3D imaging technology,

which is combined with the supply of air jets: it can create a touching sensation on the hands, fingers and wrists of users.

The development can create new ways of interacting with virtual objects, for example, the authors suggest using it for teleconferences and even for remote surgical operations.

A new solution was created by a research groupUniversity of Flexible Electronics and Sensory Technologies (BEST): It is based on a pseudo-holographic display, which contains glass and a mirror. This combination gives the feeling that the two-dimensional image is floating in the air.

In the article, the authors said that they used the system to make a basketball jump realistic.

Computer generates 3D imagebasketball using a motion sensor: it tracks the location of the hologram and the movement of the user's hands to change the direction of the air flow. The air is directed so that users feel the round shape of the ball.
