A Polish resident, Michal Lotys, was looking for discarded tractor parts on a Polish farm, but found completely
The treasure was found near the small village of Zaniowka in eastern Poland, close to the borders with Belarus and Ukraine. Archaeologists believe that it was deliberately buried on the farm in the second half of the 17th century.
Using a metal detector to searchBurying relics without permission is considered illegal in Poland. So Lotis contacted archaeologists in the nearby city of Lublin, about 150 kilometers southeast of Warsaw, who visited the farm the next day.
Their research showed that the location of the hidden treasure was clearly marked on the surface of the soil. Therefore, archaeologists have come to the conclusion that it was buried there deliberately.
In total, the jug contained 1,000 copper coins. Treasure hunters calculated that at the time they would have been enough to buy two pairs of shoes or perhaps 20 gallons of beer.
