Activision, is that you? There will be no loot boxes or “evil donations” in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

The latest games in the Call of Duty series were remembered by players not only for their innovations, but also for Activision’s approach

to monetization. Like Electronic Arts and Ubisoft, the company began introducing loot boxes into their projects, which are now haunting CoD fans. Yet this may end with Modern Warfare.

What is known

Joel Emslie, art director at Infinity Ward, dropped byon Reddit (via Eurogamer) to explain himself to gamers. According to the developer, there are no people in the studio who work on loot boxes or monetization that affects gameplay. Emslie also noted that "functional things" will be unlocked through play. Perhaps the developer had weapons, body kits and other equipment in mind, so you shouldn’t expect an “evil donation” in Modern Warfare.

"Sigh.Disinformation and the spread of incorrect information about Modern Warfare continues. What I can say right now is that we are definitely not working on any kind of loot box system. Additionally, functional items are unlocked through gameplay,” Emslie wrote.

It looks like the loot boxes in Call of Duty are:There won't be a Modern Warfare, at least not at launch. The same Black Ops 4 acquired an additional monetization system only four months after release. Even Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled got loot boxes, although the developers promised that they would not build in mechanics.
