“After 3 weeks of such training, I really want to go to school”: why everyone criticizes online school education

Teachers in Russia

In a new study by the Research Center for Socialization and Personalization of Children's Education of the Federal

Institute for Educational Development RANEPA says:almost half of Russian teachers (43%) believe that grading in distance learning is impossible, since students will still find a way to cheat.

In the study of the FIRO RANEPA, which took place withApril 7-14, 2020, 1,403 teachers from 72 subjects of Russia took part. Of these, 72% teach in urban secondary schools, 28% - in rural. The most active in the survey were teachers of the Moscow region, the Republic of Tatarstan and the Sverdlovsk region. They account for a third of all respondents.

According to a survey, 90% of teachers are fairThey believe that a stable Internet is necessary for distance education, while only 66% of those surveyed spoke about its availability. Only 60% of schools have everything necessary for teaching equipment - a laptop or computer, tablet and online access with the possibility of collaboration in real time. The remaining teachers are trying to create the necessary conditions for working from home, but 30% of them have not received any equipment for work.

About 90% of Russian teachers experiencethe need for methodological support in organizing distance education. Only 62% of teachers receive such help in the form of master classes, webinars, and consultations, while the rest organize their work independently.

One of the biggest challenges teacherscalled installation of software, software for collaboration in real time and registration in services such as Google Docs. In addition, not all teachers have access to content resources and test materials - only 68%, and only 30% of teachers have access to databases with digital, including multimedia and interactive, test materials, although 96 % of teachers.

60% of teachers surveyed by SIC socialization andpersonalization of children's education of the Federal Institute for the Development of Education of the RANEPA, they said that in their schools, before the establishment of quarantine measures, no one was engaged in distance learning (DO). So they simply do not have experience in teaching in this format.

The effectiveness of distance learning in many waysdue to the motivation of teachers to interact with children, to attract all available means of communication for these purposes. It turned out that as an optional condition, only 3% of teachers consider high motivation to interact with students. A significant part (60%) consider this condition necessary, and 37% - desirable.

However, a sufficiently large number of teachersnot convinced of the need for a high level of motivation. They, according to researchers, have a chance to form a certain risk group. This can be manifested, for example, in a formal approach to conducting distance learning, in skeleton searching for methods of enhancing the attention and interest of children.

Thus, 8% of respondents believe that theirschools are not ready for distance education at all, and 51% of teachers are sure that their schools are not ready enough for online education. The remaining 41% of teachers say that schools are ready for distance learning, and the leadership has created all the conditions necessary for its organization.

The most popular among teachersUchi.ru, the Russian online platform for elementary school, uses - 37% of domestic teachers use this service. In second place in terms of frequency of use is Russian Electronic School — 26%. Yandex.Uchebnik have approximately the same rating and various services for creating online tests - 16%. In addition, teachers, as a rule, conduct classes at Yandex.Class and Zoom.

However, only 14% of teachers are convinced thatin a remote format, the content of the curriculum is assimilated by the students in full, and 6% believe that the programs are not mastered. Most teachers are inclined to the fact that they are not fully mastered.

Schoolchildren in Russia

Students also criticize the system en masseonline education practiced by Russian schools. Many also lack laptops and other technology for teaching, especially in families with multiple students who cannot be in their Zoom conferences on the same computer at the same time.

In addition, distance education is convenient only for residents of large cities where there is good Internet, while still not the entire territory of Russia is covered by accessible Internet.

In an interview with Haytek, 14-year-old Masha B. from St. Petersburg said that usually in modern schoolchildren 3-4 lessons are allocated for a remote school on a weekday and 2 on Saturday. Teachers' homework is set in the same volume as usual - in some subjects up to 4 written pages are published. At the same time, it is necessary to take it on the day of the lesson, but, according to Masha, some teachers simply do not check such homework - they put a plus even if the children did not send anything.

After three weeks on distance learning II want to go to school. It’s much easier for me to run for 45 minutes than to sit for several hours trying to solve a physical education test. At least they explain something at school, and then they gave the assignment, if you want to, you don’t want to, but they came to him today for dinner. And if you send later, then you may not accept the job and put a deuce.

Schoolchildren, like teachers, faceproblems with access to various educational services. For example, many necessary links simply do not open, and students have to register on a huge number of sites to work on each subject, some of the resources begin to slow down, unable to cope with so many visitors.

We were asked by history to make a table. To make a table, you need to go to the site, ask the class teacher for a username and password, enter it and wait for the video from the site to load. After that, copy the task from the schedule, cut out the link to the table, and only then fill it out. In the first weeks, nothing was revealed at all and there weren’t some items on the schedule.

Gleb from Perm also told Hi-Tech thatI’m not delighted with distance education, especially since it is in this format that lessons are now being held, including for 11th graders who will soon take the Unified State Exam. On the one hand, he says, the COVID-19 pandemic has led to the timing of the Unified State Exam being slightly delayed, but on the other hand, the quality of lessons via Zoom leaves much to be desired.

In addition, in Russia there is enoughA large number of schools in which students do not study online with teachers, but simply solve tests and take homework. However, there are no official statistics yet about exactly what size of Russian schools have switched to just such a format of education.
