After a scandal, Xiaomi allowed users to turn off data collection in the browser

Last week, Forbes published an article in which the Chinese company Xiaomi was accused of spying

for its users. The company initially denied this information, but now allows users to disable data collection.

What are they accused of?

Let us remind you that several experts immediately came to the conclusion that Xiaomi collects data about its users, which is then quite easy to decrypt.

Collection occurs, including through browsersMi Browser and Mint Browser: the company tracks which sites you open, which links you follow, etc. Moreover, information is collected even when the “Incognito” mode is turned on.

After this, the company released an officialstatement and admitted that it collects information about the system, preferences, use of user interface features, memory usage and crash reports, but such data cannot be used to identify users.

What to do about it

Now Xiaomi has provided users withthe ability to disable data collection yourself. To do this, you need to update the Mi Browser/Mi Browser Pro and Mint Browser browsers to versions 12.1.4 and 3.4.3, respectively. The update is available via Google Play.

However, you can only prohibit data collection in Incognito mode. This option can be activated in the settings.
