AI completely wrote an episode of Stargate

In June 2021, Stargate co-creator Brad Wright posted a question on social media: “Can

World-class AI to write a script interesting enough for the actors to get back together for filming?”

This task was taken up by Lawrence Moroni, head ofthe AI department at Google — by November, he had generated the first scenario with the help of the company's facilities. According to the researcher, there were a lot of incoherent sentences in the first draft, so Moroni decided to try again, using several new methods and a much larger knowledge base.

For the second scenario, Morouni trained an AI model, using all scripted Stargate episodes and combined them with pre-trained natural language models. He also borrowed the idea from the language translation and used a special technique to help the AI predict what the character should say based on some script instructions.

Finally he used the universal encodersentences, which allows you to encode semantics in sentences in numerical form. In this way, it is easier for the AI to understand how one sentence is connected to another and which scenes turn out to be incoherent.

Wright believes that the AI scenario offers"a unique idea" that "honors the tradition of the show, but also tries to offer the viewer something new." He doesn't think screenwriters are doing their job worse, but in the future they will be able to work together with this technology. "He may not be better than the best people, but it's like the AI gradually learned chess and then beat all the grandmasters."
