For years, researchers have been toying with the idea of using smart toilets or even a smart toilet.

The AI algorithm collects an image of feces and then identifies possible human diseases. The neural network was trained on over 3,000 stool images that were classified by gastroenterologists.
As a result of testing, the algorithm was able to independently analyze the images and accurately classify the stool in 85% of cases and accurately determine the presence of blood in it in 76% of cases.
“We are optimistic about patient readinessuse this technology because it can be installed in the pipes of their toilets and does not require the patient to do anything other than flushing, ”says Sonia Grego, lead researcher on the study. "This can be especially helpful for patients who are unable to report their condition, such as those living in a long-term care facility."
“Patients often cannot remember what it looks liketheir bowel movements or how often they defecate as part of their routine observation. Smart toilet technology will enable us to gather the long-term information we need to more accurately and timely diagnose chronic gastrointestinal problems, ”said Deborah Fisher, lead author of the study.
