In the photos, the component on the rightthe image looks like the current one in "AirPods Pro" and the hardware on the right is for "AirPods Pro 2". The cables come in two different sizes, which Mr White said indicates the AirPods Pro 2 comes in two sizes.
Rumors from Bloomberg suggest that the versionThe AirPods Pro 2 will have a more compact design that lacks a short barbell that sticks out from the bottom. The AirPods Pro may have a rounded shape, more like headphones from the likes of Google and Samsung, and it might make sense for this design to offer different sizes for a better fit.
Apple is said to be strugglingshrink the AirPods down to a suitable size to remove the stock, so chances are it won't, and that may explain why the hardware designs Mr. White uses seem to be similar in size to the current AirPods Pro hardware.
Rumor has it that AirPods Pro will have a new onewireless chip. White says the new AirPods Pro still have a "W2 chip," but it's unclear what that means. The current AirPods Pro use the H1 processor, which has a wireless chip that is the successor to the original W1 chip in the first generation AirPods, so it is possible that the W2 here refers to the H1 and does not indicate a lack of new wireless chip technology.
White has shared Apple's exact details in the past, butnot always. Earlier this year, White shared images of a braided cable allegedly designed for the iPhone 12 line, but that didn't work. He also said that Apple is working on a black Apple Pencil, but it hasn't arrived yet. However, he did share early leaks about the case and display of the Apple iPhone 12, which turned out to be accurate.
It is not yet known exactly when the updated version of the AirPods Pro 2 will be released, but we expect to see them sometime in 2021.
