Albatross II - Taiwanese Bayraktar with Sky Word II hypersonic missiles and a range of 250 km

The Taiwanese army decided to arm itself not only with JC Tech's Flyingfish loitering ammunition, but also

domestic analogues of Bayraktar. Geosat Aerospace & Technology is working on an updated version of the Albatross attack drone.

What is known

Albatross is the Taiwanese equivalent of Turkishdrone Bayraktar TB2. It has a length of 5.3 m, a wingspan of 8.6 m and can carry a payload of 55 kg. The maximum flight altitude is 4 km, the range is 150 km, and the operating time is 12 hours.

Geosat Aerospace & Technology wants to improveunmanned aerial vehicle. The upgraded version will be called Albatross II. It will receive updated radars to provide surveillance over a wider range. The flight range will be increased to 250 km.

But the main improvement will concern combatcapabilities of an unmanned aerial vehicle. Albatross II will be able to carry Taiwan-made air-to-air missiles. Taipei Times source, quoting the CEO of Geosat Aerospace & Technology, writes that the drone will receive support from Sky Word II (Tien Chien II) hypersonic missiles. They can reach speeds of up to Mach 6 (7400 km/h). But in this case, the company will have to more than triple its carrying capacity, since one such rocket weighs over 180 kg. Serial production is planned for 2023.
