All popular browsers may become useless for Russia

Sanctions policies around the world have had a significant impact on consumer electronics, but that’s not all.

which threatens Russian users.Izvestia, citing its own sources, warns that the operation of popular browsers such as Google Chrome, Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Edge may soon be limited. If the most pessimistic forecasts come true, all Russian sites will stop opening in the designated browsers. This will happen if a decision is made to block security certificates (a digital signature used to encrypt data when creating a secure connection and gaining access) issued to all sites from the Russian Federation.

In the spring, the center for issuing such certificates beganrevoke the certificates of websites of sub-sanctioned companies (in particular, banks that recommended using Yandex.Browser), after which national certificates were created that allowed them to continue working as usual. However, Izvestia cites the experience of Kazakhstan, where in 2019 they tried to implement a similar initiative, but after some time these own certificates were added to the revoked section and the issuance of such permits ceased. The media has sent a request for comment to key companies involved, but no responses yet.
