One of the interesting features of the new iPhone 14 and Apple Watch Series 8 is the Apple Crash Detection function, which can detect
the owner gets into an accident and automaticallycall rescuers. On the night of October 2, the 911 hotline in Lincoln, Nebraska received an alarm generated by a newly introduced feature. Arriving at the scene of the accident, rescuers found a car that had flown into a tree, five of the six passengers of which had already died from their injuries. The surviving 24-year-old girl was taken to the hospital, but could not be saved. And although this story has been dubbed “the worst car accident in Lincoln in recent memory,” in a slightly different situation, Apple’s Crash Detection feature could well have saved one, or perhaps more, lives.
