Amazon lobbies for the legalization of marijuana in the US

Amazon will step up its marijuana campaign by announcing last Tuesday that it is active

lobbies for legislative reforms aimed at decriminalization and reaffirmed its commitment not to screen applicants for cannabis addiction.

Beth Galetti, Amazon's senior vice president ofHR issues, in her blog, she announced the company's support for two legislation aimed at decriminalizing cannabis across the country. The move comes amid expanding state-level legalization, with 36 states permitting some level of public access to cannabis, and 18 states and Washington, D.C. legalizing recreational cannabis use by adults.

A US-only Amazon company950,000 people, said they supported the bills for a number of reasons - one of them being the failure of fragmented state laws and the fact that pre-job cannabis testing “disproportionately affects people of color”. The company also noted that its ongoing commitment to finding “great new hires” means that eliminating cannabis pretesting on hiring will allow them to recruit employees from more people.

This is a pretty interesting move from Amazon, because in many other respects the company is not considered the best employer. However, the open-minded attitude towards cannabis in the eyes of ordinary people makes Amazon a progressive company. And Amazon clearly does not want to be lagged behind when today's “draconian” laws are revised. As the writer Zhvanetsky said: “If you cannot prevent it, take the lead”.
