AMD Unveils Ryzen Z1 and Z1 Extreme Chips for Handheld Game Consoles Including ASUS ROG Ally

AMD has announced two processors that will be used in portable gaming consoles.

The chips are called Ryzen Z1 and Z1 Extreme.

What is known

Both processors are based on Zen 4 cores andhave RNDA 3 graphics, the Ryzen Z1 chip received 6 cores, 12 threads and 22 MB of cache. The GPU has four compute units and 256 stream processors. The graphics performance is 2.8 TLOPS, which is 7 times more powerful than the GPU used in the Nintendo Switch.

Ryzen Z1 Extreme has 8 cores and alsosupports multithreading technology. The amount of cache memory has been increased to 24 MB. The graphics chip received 12 compute units and 768 stream processors, and the performance is more than tripled compared to the Z1 and is 8.6 TFLOPS, which is only 1.7 TFLOPS less than the Sony PlayStation 5.

AMD did not specify on which clockprocessor cores in the new chips operate at frequencies, having only nominal requirements for heat dissipation at the level of 15-30 W. The processors also support USB4 and LPDDR5X RAM.
