What is known

Both aircraft were intercepted by AmericanF-16 Fighting Falcon fighters. This was reported by the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD). Russian planes were spotted near Alaska.

Tu-95 and Su-35 remained in the internationalairspace. The command noted that both aircraft did not cross the airspace of either Canada or the United States during the flight. By tradition, the service added that the actions of the Russian pilots are not regarded as a threat or a provocation.

Note that recently in Europe, F-35 Lightning II fighters intercepted Russian Il-20 and Su-27. They approached the borders of Poland from the Kaliningrad region.
