An amateur astronomer filmed an unknown body falling on Jupiter

On September 12, Pereira was making observations in São Caetano do Sul in the state of São Paulo: he wanted to film Jupiter

using the DeTeCt software, which automatically registers flashes in the image.

The conditions weren't the best, but the astronomer was able to make 25 clips.

When planets like Jupiter, Saturn and Mars are in opposition, I photograph them every night when the weather is clear. Most of all, I love Jupiter.

First Name Last Name

In the first video , Pereira unexpectedly saw an unusual glow near Jupiter. The astronomer did not attach much importance to this, as he thought that it could be related to the chosen shooting parameters.

He uploaded the videos to the DeTeCt program, and only after analyzing the recording, the program gave a message about the fall of a body on the planet.

An asteroid allegedly fell on Jupiter approximatelya hundred meters, it could also be a small comet nucleus. So far, there is no evidence that the collision left a dark trail in Jupiter's atmosphere.
