An asteroid four times the size of the Empire State Building is approaching Earth

According to NASA's Center for Near-Earth Object Studies (CNEOS), a huge

an asteroid four times the size of the Empire State Building.

The asteroid, named 7335 (1989 JA), will fly bypast our planet at a distance of approximately 4 million km—or almost 10 times the average distance between the Earth and the Moon. However, given the enormous size of the space object (1.8 km in diameter) and the relative proximity to our planet, NASA classified the asteroid as “potentially hazardous.” This means it could cause enormous damage to our planet if its orbit ever changes and it collides with Earth.

According to NASA, object 7335 (1989 JA) isthe largest asteroid to approach Earth this year. Scientists estimate that it is moving at a speed of about 76,000 km/h, or 20 times faster than a speeding bullet. The asteroid will next approach the planet on June 23, 2055. However, it will fly even further, 70 times the distance between the Earth and the Moon.
