An engine for an orbital aircraft was tested in Russia

United Engine Corporation Rostec tested a pulsating demonstrator

detonation engine. The first stage of testing has been successfully completed: the development has shown the required results.

In certain operating modes, specific thrust up to 50%exceeded the performance of traditional power plants. In the future, this will increase the maximum range and payload weight of aircraft by 1.3-1.5 times, the press service of Rostec said.

The development is planned to be used on orbital aircraft, on supersonic and hypersonic aircraft, as well as in promising rocket and space systems.

Representatives of Rostec emphasize that this typepower plant for aviation is more economical, in contrast to the thermodynamic cycle used in existing gas turbine engines. Thanks to the new engine, aircraft will have better flight dynamics and maneuverability.

A model of a pulsating detonation engine was first presented at the Army-2017 International Military-Technical Forum.
