Now the oil slick continues to movetowards the Barents Sea. It is reported that on May 17 (22.30 Moscow time) the slick reached the village of Ust-Tsilma in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug. The village is located just 110 km from the Barents Sea. As you know, it flows into the Arctic Ocean. Greenpeace experts expressed concern that petroleum products will end up there in the near future.
It is noted that yesterday Komi Vladimir Uyba signed a decree on the introduction of an emergency regime in connection with an accident in three municipalities: the Usinsk urban district, the Izhemsky and Ust-Tsilemsky regions.
Earlier, on May 16, a gathering of local residents took place in Kolva. They put forward requirements for Lukoil to urgently diagnose and reject emergency oil pipelines.
The Arctic Ocean is adjacent tothe territories of Denmark (Greenland), Iceland, Canada, Norway, Russia and the United States of America. The legal status of the ocean at the international level is not directly regulated. In part, it is determined by the national laws of the Arctic countries and international legal agreements.
