An ultra-secure quantum network will be established between Moscow and St. Petersburg

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko spoke at the current Eastern Economic Forum, saying that

the authorities intend to develop a quantum communication network between Moscow and St. Petersburg.

One of the reasons for the attention that is planned to be paid to this area is the highest level of protection that this technology can provide.

Good progress is being made in quantum computing.Russian Railways made the first quantum network in Russia, connecting Moscow and St. Petersburg, where cryptographers make it possible to decrypt keys instantly and provide an unprecedented level of communication confidentiality. This network is probably the second longest in the world after China. We plan to develop it further.

It is worth noting that the initial launch of the network,the length of which is 700 km, took place back in 2021. At the same time, it can rightfully be considered the largest quantum network in Europe, which is also created on “original domestic solutions”.
