An unusual signal appears and disappears. Scientists can't figure out what's publishing it

The radio signal was designated as ASKAP J173608.2-321635: it emits only polarized radiation, and in other ranges

nothing could be found. Therefore, it has not yet been possible to understand what is publishing it. 

The authors of the new work discovered a signal in the data,received from the ASKAP radio telescope at the end of 2019 and beginning of 2020. The telescope detected 13 such flashes, but several attempts to examine the source with other instruments did not bring any results. Previously, telescopes did not record information about the signal.

Nowadays, flares in the radio range continue for weeks, after which they abruptly, in a matter of hours, fade away. They are distinguished by complex linear and circular polarization.

The authors of the new work believe that this is happeningbecause the radiation on its way to us passes through the gas and dust clouds, penetrated by a powerful magnetic field, or the source itself is characterized by such fields.

Subsequently this radio signal faileddetected neither in X-rays nor in observations in the near-infrared: for astronomers this fact turned out to be the most unusual. This means that the signal has nothing to do with the activity of the star, or the binary system, or the neutron star-pulsar, and is not even related to the gamma-ray burst and the subsequent supernova explosion.
