Android update breaks Face Unlock on Google Pixel 4 smartphones

In mid-October, Google officially introduced the new flagships Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL. They lost their scanner

fingerprints in favor of facial recognition, but for now it only brings headaches to some users.

What happened

The fact is that on the forums the number ofcomplaints about Face Unlock, which stopped working. The front camera does not recognize faces and displays an error message. The screen displays either “Hardware Unavailable” or “Try Again.”

The first complaints about the error appeared back in November, but at that time they were isolated. Now the number of messages is growing rapidly. Users attribute the “breakage” to Android security updates.

Rebooting the smartphone and resetting to factory settings does not solve the problem.

Google already knows about this and is trying to fix the bug. In the meantime, owners of Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL have switched to PIN codes and pattern keys.
