Announcement MediaTek Dimensity 1080 - a new favorite of the middle segment

MediaTek unexpectedly announced the Dimensity 1080 chipset. This is a mid-budget 8-core solution made on 6nm

technical process and is a refresh of Dimensity920. The new product has the same set of cores (2 x Cortex-A78 up to 2.6 GHz + 6 x Cortex-A55 up to 2.0 GHz) with a slightly increased frequency of the older ones and the same Mali-G68 MC4 graphics accelerator. The resolution of supported cameras has doubled - up to 200 megapixels, and video recording is supported in 4K HDR format.

As Digital Chat Station clarifies, engineeringDimensity 1080 samples give out about 520,000 points in AnTuTu, which puts the new product on a par with the Snapdragon 778G. An insider claims that a Chinese company will be the first to offer this chipset. The most likely candidate for this role is the Redmi Note 12 series, which was credited with the Dimensity 1080 long before today. This also coincides with MediaTek's plans, according to which the first smartphones on the new chip will hit the market before the end of the fourth quarter of 2022, which started in October.
