Apple unexpectedly introduced the Apple M2 chipset, which is made on the 5nm process of the second generation, accommodating
25% more transistors than the M1.Architecturally, the CPU unit includesWhile maintaining the same power consumption, the CPU performance of the M2 has increased by 18% compared to the M1.The graphics accelerator has also been updated: now it consists of 10 cores(2 more than in M1) and productivity increased by 35%.The novelty increases the gap in performance per unit of energy relative to full-fledged desktop processors: in some scenarios, the gap is fivefold.
The neural engine has also been improved, becoming40% faster. Declared support for decoding 8K and ProRes videos, as well as external 6K displays. The first solutions based on the Apple M2 chip will be the new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro.
