Apple will use OLED displays only on iPhone 8 Plus

At the moment, the main news is Apple's plans to use OLED displays in next-generation models

iPhone 8.Multiple reports suggest that the company will only use OLED displays in its largest – A 5.5-inch iPhone Plus model, which will have smooth rounded edges and a borderless screen, similar to the Galaxy S7 edge.

However, the company is experiencing problems in findingreliable supplier of these panels in sufficient quantities. A report from Bloomberg notes that the four major OLED panel manufacturers—Samsung, LG Display, Sharp, and Japan Display—will not have sufficient production capacity to meet Apple's demand for OLED displays until 2018. This fact grows into a problem for Apple and forces the latter to limit itself to the use of OLED displays in iPhone Plus models from next year’s line.

The report notes that the largest to datemoment in the world OLED panel manufacturer, Samsung Display, has entered into an exclusive agreement with Apple to supply the latest OLED panels in 2017. But due to the problem with the quantity of products produced and the demand for it on the one hand, and the expected high demand for next year's iPhone models on the other hand, the South Korean company will not be able to meet Apple's requirements. Under the signed agreement, the Cupertino company has already placed an order to receive 100 million OLED panels from Samsung within the first year. These panels are over 5 inches in size, which only confirms the rumor thatiPhone 8 Plus onlyfrom next year's line will receive an OLED display.

“Apple calculated that with a high shortageready-made panels from manufacturers, high demand for models with OLED displays is expected next year" – Dan Panzik, supply chain analyst at IHS Markit, expressed his opinion. “The combination of Apple's stringent quality requirements and the complexity of manufacturing OLED panels will likely result in limited supply,” he continued.

Confirming previous reports, Bloomberg also claims that the iPhone 8 model will havenew glass panel design, Withvirtual button "Home"and edge-to-edge screen.

OLED panels are thinner than LCD panels and transmitmore vibrant colors. They have higher levels of contrast due to a deeper level of black. Almost the majority of OEMs on Android have already switched to using OLED displays in their flagship products, although it should be recognized that not all of them are of high quality.
