Apple admitted viewing user photos for child abuse

It turned out that Apple scans all user photos in iCloud to track materials containing

child abuse. This was announced by Apple's Senior Director of Privacy Jane Horvath during CES 2020 in Las Vegas.

According to a spokeswoman for Appleuses special software to automatically check images stored in iCloud. The director did not tell how exactly it works, but noted that the program is necessary for Apple to “track materials about child sexual abuse”.

If the company discovers an account that stores such photos, it immediately deletes it.

The Telegraph reported that Apple’s algorithm most likely scans details of photographs and compares them with patterns specific to pornographic content.
