At Apple's "One More Thing" on November 10, the company focused heavily on Apple's new ARM-based MacBook (M1).
And finally, Apple announced the headphones today, December 8th. And they're actually called AirPods Max!

Price and sales
Several leaks said that newApple's AirPods Max will cost around $350. Apple has confirmed that the price of the headphones will be much higher — $549. They go on sale December 15th and can be ordered now.

Design and features
As leaks suggested, AirPods Max haveA fairly classic headphone design with oval “cans” held in place by a metal frame. However, the headphones are not modular as some leakers have claimed.
According to Apple, AirPods Max have "incrediblyhigh-quality sound", adaptive equalizer (sound leveling), active noise reduction and spatial sound. Each earbud can independently swivel and rotate to adapt to the user's head. The ear cushions are made of memory foam, and Apple says it's an effective seal for passive noise isolation.
Digital crown similar to thatfound on Apple Watch, used to adjust the volume. It can also be used to play and pause music, skip tracks, answer phone calls, and of course activate Siri. The button we see on the opposite side of the crown will be used to toggle between ANC mode and transparency.
The headphones are equipped with a 40mm dynamica driver developed by Apple that Apple says delivers rich and deep bass, accurate mids, and crisp and clear highs. The AirPods Max is also powered by the Apple H1. Apple says each chip has “audio processing power” that will be used for ANC (active noise cancellation), among other features.
AirPods Max will be available in five colors:
- Space gray
- Silver
- Blue sky
- Green
- Pink
AirPods Max Features
As we expected, Apple's Siri virtual assistantIntegrated with AirPods Max and can be launched using the digital crown with one press and hold. In addition, the headphones can detect when they are on the user's head, and thus can pause music playback if they are not, or even if the user only takes off one of the headphones.
Adaptive Equalizer: This feature adjusts the sound (bass and midrange) in real time according to the fit and density of the ear cushions to ensure the best listening experience.
Active noise cancellation:Like most premium headphones, the AirPods Max has ANC. It will use three outward-facing microphones in each earpiece to detect ambient noise.
Transparency Mode: This feature will allow users to listen to their music as well as hear their surroundings, unlike ANC, which blocks out all ambient noise.
Spatial Sound:According to Apple, AirPods Max uses "dynamic head-tracking spatial audio to place sounds virtually anywhere in the space, providing an immersive, theatrical experience for 5.1, 7.1 and Dolby Atmos."
AirPods Max Battery and Smart Case

- 5 minutes of charging will provide approximately 1.5 hours of listening time.
According to Apple, with ANC enabled andspatial sound AirPods Max will work up to 20 hours without recharging the battery. Apple will sell the AirPods Max with a Smart Case that can put the headphones into an “ultra-low power state,” which Apple says helps conserve battery power when not in use.
AirPods Max charge via the Lightning connector instead of USB Type-C and come with a Lightning to USB-C cable.
