In the United States, a class-action antitrust lawsuit was filed against Apple and Amazon for allegedly increasing prices for consumer goods.
What does it mean?
The lawsuit says Apple and Amazon colludedwith each other in order to increase prices for iPhone and iPad. To do this, they removed almost all other resellers of Apple products from the Amazon online store website.
Class action lawsuit objects to agreementconcluded in 2019. Apple gave Amazon a 10% discount on all of its products in exchange for only 7 of its 600 resellers remaining on the online retailer's platform. In other words, this effectively made Amazon the largest reseller of new iPhones and iPads on its site.
After that, prices for some Apple products rose by 10%, while the iPhone maker focused on stabilizing prices in its retail stores.
The lawsuit concerns US residents who bought new iPhonesand iPad on Amazon since January 2019. He is demanding unspecified treble damages, restitution and an end to the alleged so-called "group boycott" of the companies.
