Apple and Google will keep track of users with COVID-19 and the people who have contacted them

Apple and Google announced the collaboration and development of a joint project to fight against coronavirus

COVID-19.

What is it

This is essentially a common platform for users.iPhone and Android, which will help you find out if you have contacted a person with a coronavirus. After all, one of the main tools to contain infection is to track the circle of contacts.

Tracking links between people willimplemented via Bluetooth technology. In theory, the patient will have to indicate his diagnosis, after which the system will send notifications to his contact persons. But the names will not be indicated at the same time - the contact person will simply receive a notification with recommendations on what to do next.

Moreover, all data is anonymous, there will be no access to the location of the sick person. For this, a special anonymous key is used, which changes every 15 minutes.

Companies report two phases of development. In May, they will release development tools (APIs) that will ensure the compatibility of medical applications between devices on both operating systems. Applications will be available in the App Store and Google Play. And within a few months, work will be ongoing to expand the platform for tracking contacts via Bluetooth, embedding functionality in operating systems. This is a more reliable solution than the API, which will allow more people to participate and will provide interaction with the ecosystem of applications and health authorities.
