Apple and Google will keep track of users with COVID-19 and the people who have contacted them

Apple and Google announced cooperation and development of a joint project to combat coronavirus

COVID-19.

What is it

Essentially, it is a common platform for usersiPhone and Android, which will help you find out if you have been in contact with a person who has been diagnosed with coronavirus. After all, one of the main tools for containing infection is tracking the circle of contact persons.

Tracking connections between people willcarried out via Bluetooth technology. In theory, the patient will have to indicate his diagnosis, after which the system will send notifications to his contact persons. But names will not be indicated - the contact person will simply receive a notification with recommendations on what to do next.

At the same time, all data is anonymous; there will be no access to the location of the sick person. For this, a special anonymous key is used, which changes every 15 minutes.

The companies report two phases of development. In May, they will release development tools (APIs) that will ensure compatibility of medical applications between devices of both OSes. The applications will be available in the App Store and Google Play. And over the course of several months, work will continue to expand the platform for contact tracing via Bluetooth, building functionality into operating systems. This is a more robust solution than an API, will allow more people to participate and will ensure interoperability with the app ecosystem and health authorities.
