Apple asks Taiwanese suppliers to label products as "made in China"

Apple has reportedly asked Taiwanese suppliers to label their products as "made in China."

This should avoid possible problems due to strict Chinese customs inspections caused by US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan. Discuss

According to the Nikkei, Apple askedmanufacturers on the island label components destined for mainland China as "Chinese Taipei" or "Taiwan, China". The labels are required to comply with a long-standing but previously unenforced rule that requires imported goods to indicate that an island is part of the PRC.

Apple felt that the use of the phrase "Made inTaiwan" may result in delays in deliveries, fines, and even denial of deliveries. Interestingly, Taiwan itself requires that the place of origin be indicated on exported goods: either "Taiwan" or the official name of the country "Republic of China".
