Apple fixed a bug that broke MacBook and iMac‌ after installing macOS Monterey

Apple said it has resolved an issue with the macOS Monterey update on some Macs.

What
not this way?

Since the release of macOS Monterey, someusers started complaining that their devices were broken. The problem affected laptops and computers with Intel processors that were manufactured between 2017 and 2020. Here is their complete list:

  • iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020)
  • iMac‌ Pro
  • Mac Pro (2019)
  • Mac Pro‌ (Rack, 2019)
  • Mac mini (2018)
  • MacBook Air (Retina, 13-inch, 2020)
  • MacBook Air‌ (Retina, 13-inch, 2019)
  • MacBook Air‌ (Retina, 13-inch, 2018)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2020, Dual Thunderbolt 3)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2020, Four Thunderbolt 3)
  • MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2019, Dual Thunderbolt 3)
  • MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2019)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2019, Four Thunderbolt 3)
  • MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2018, Four Thunderbolt 3)

After installing macOS Monterey, these modelsstopped running. As it turned out, the problem was related to the firmware on the Apple T2 security chip, so it did not affect gadgets with proprietary M series chips - they simply do not have a separate T2 chip.

The released update fixes this bug.and prevents further failures. But users whose Mac has already broken due to this will have to contact a service center to bring the device back to life.
