Apple has not yet recovered from the scandal involving the deliberate hidden slowdown of older smartphones, and the company
What happened?
Group for consumer protection in Spain(OCU) last week sent a letter demanding that Apple provide clarification and compensate affected customers. Moreover, this time it is reported that the company is slowing down the work of both old and recent models, including the iPhone 12, iPhone 11, iPhone 8 and iPhone XS.
According to OCU, updates to iOS 14.5, iOS 14.5.1 and iOS 14.6 “significantly damaged consumer devices,” “dramatically reducing their processor speeds” and reducing battery life.
“Excessively rapid wear and tear of the Apple iPhone after updates is unfair to consumers and harms the environment,” say Spanish human rights activists.
And indeed, there were reports in the media about problemswith iOS 14.5, 14.5.1 and 14.6. OCU wants to open a dialogue with the manufacturer to find “the best way to compensate consumers,” but if dialogue does not take place, it intends to consider other actions, including litigation.
