Apple may delay iPhone 14 release due to Nancy Pelosi and tensions between China and Taiwan

Surely, many have heard about the visit of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan

and tensions with China that have escalated because of this. But how might this impact the smartphone market? It turns out it can.

What's wrong?

The current political situation can directlyinfluence the production of new Apple smartphones and the release of the iPhone 14 line, which is expected in the fall. The fact is that Apple is TSMC's main customer, and the company supplies chips to Pegatron in China, where iPhones are assembled. Following Pelosi's visit, the Chinese Communist Party introduced new rules banning any mention of "Taiwan" or "Republic of China" in shipping documents. This, in turn, means that some, if not all, of the equipment could be sent back to Taiwan and, as a result, delay iPhone 14 production.

What also aggravates the situation is thatPegatron's vice chairman and TSMC executives were seen with Pelosi during her visit, so this could be the start of a more bitter trade war between the CCP and Taiwan, in which Apple and other US companies have become involved.

According to media reports, Apple is already in negotiationswith its Taiwanese partners and demanded that all “Made in Taiwan” or “Republic of China” labels be removed or replaced. However, it is not yet clear whether the smartphones will be ready by the deadline.
