Recall that in 2015 Apple released the MacBookPro with butterfly keyboard. Massive user complaints about problems with the new keyboard forced the company to return to the traditional scissor mechanism. Which is what Apple did with the new 16-inch MacBook Pro at the end of 2019. The 13-inch MacBook Pro, which is due out in March 2020, may also get a scissor keyboard.

At the same time, in July 2019, a respected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo announced that the new Smart Keyboard will have a membrane type of keystroke, and they will be released no earlier than 2021.

According to updated data from the same DigiTimes, in the second half of 2020, Apple may release a backlit scissor keyboard for the new iPad line.
