Apple never intended to set Touch ID on iPhone X

Even a year before the release of the iPhone X, there were many rumors that Apple would install a fingerprint scanner on

the back or side of the device. There was also information that the sensor would be placed under the display. We already know that the iPhone X doesn't have Touch ID at all. Some publications speculated that Apple initially tried to add it, but the technology could not be implemented. However, Apple's Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering Dan Riccio dispelled these speculations.

In an interview with TechCrunch, he said that Apple "did not waste time" on any manipulations with Touch ID, since from the very beginning all efforts were focused on Face ID.

Note that the first rumors that the scanneriPhone X will be placed under the display, appeared back in May 2016. Over time, they only became more numerous, and variations appeared. In particular, they suggested integrating Touch ID into the power button or on the back panel. However, already in July of the same year, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggested that there would be no Touch ID in the anniversary iPhone at all. In the end, he was the one who was right.
