Apple reported the biggest drop in revenue since 2016

Apple reported results for the holiday quarter, which ended December 31, 2022. And she has

good and bad news.

What is known

The bad news (for Apple itself) isin a drop in revenue. According to the results of the quarter, the company received $117.2 billion, which is 5% less than in the same period last year. As a result, this is Apple's first annual decline in quarterly revenue since 2019 and the largest decline since 2016.

Sales fell in all key markets, especiallyin China and Europe. The company says that this was influenced by three factors: the strengthening of the dollar, problems with production in China, which delayed deliveries of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, and the general macroeconomic situation.

Almost all products also showed a decline:smartphones - down 8.17%, Mac computers - down 28.66%, accessories and home devices - down 8.3%. Growth was only in the category of tablets (+29.6%) and services (+6.4%).

In good news, Apple has overcome a newpsychological mark based on the number of active devices. Currently, there are already 2 billion iPhones, iPads, Macs and other devices in active use around the world. In 2012 there were only 500 million, in 2016 - 1 billion, and in 2020 - 1.5 billion.
