Apple restricts AirDrop in China to help quell protests

Anti-government protests are raging in China, associated with the indignation of residents with the strictest anti-covid

Police began jamming Wi-Fi and mobile networks to suppress the demonstrations, but resourceful Chinese began to communicate with each other through the iPhone's AirDrop feature. However, this scheme did not work for long: Apple, which fights for freedom of speech and user rights in advertising, unexpectedly restricted the operation of AirDrop inside China, while not affecting devices outside of it.

The essence of change lies in the limitation of time, during which the iPhone user can receive content from anyone - both people from the contact list and random users who are nearby. Now, instead of endless work, this option is valid only for 10 minutes, seriously complicating communication between people. Apple itself declined to comment on the change.
