Apple has classified the iPhone 6, one of its most popular smartphones, as a "vintage" product.
What does it mean
According to Apple's definition, a gadget becomes“vintage” if it is not on sale for more than 5, but less than 7 years. The company continues to provide parts and repair services for such products. If the device has not been sold for more than 7 years, it becomes completely obsolete and is no longer supported by the manufacturer.
iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were presentedin September 2014 with iOS 8. They were discontinued in 2019 with the release of iOS 13, which requires iPhone 6s and newer models. Despite this, Apple is still releasing security patches for devices running iOS 12, including not only the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, but also the iPhone 5s.
It’s interesting that the iPhone 6 Plus became a “vintage” smartphone before the iPhone 6. This is due to the fact that the regular “six” was sold longer in some regions.
