Apple Watch began to be used to detect COVID-19

Scientists at Mount Sinai Hospital conducted a new study that found that the Apple Watch could be

used to detect coronavirus infection even before diagnosis.

During the scientific work, experts decidedsee if a certain Apple Watch feature can be used to detect coronavirus. This is a heart rate variability metric that measures changes in the time between beats of a user's heart throughout the day. Low HRV indicated that the nervous system was trying to adapt to changes. Thus, as part of the study, scientists planned to find out whether it is possible to predict coronavirus infection in the case of low HRV.

To do this, they recorded HRV in almost 300health professionals from Mount Sinai who agreed to wear an Apple Watch with HRV monitoring software. It turned out that in workers who contracted COVID-19, the HRV indicator changed a week before the diagnosis. Apparently, the Apple Watch can be used to detect infection even before a person realizes that he is sick.
