According to custom, such a coin was placed in the mouth of the deceased. It is with her that the dead man must pay off Charon, the mythical character who transported the souls of the dead to the afterlife. This character has always been depicted as a gloomy old man in clothes similar to a robe. Charon transports the dead along the waters of underground rivers, receiving payment for this. According to myth, Charon transports the souls only of those dead whose bones have found peace in the grave. 

The expedition conducts archaeological work onmonuments of the Bosporan kingdom: the settlement and the southwestern necropolis of the ancient city of Parthenia. These objects fall into the area of ​​the water conduit in the suburb of Kerch.
