Astronomers "exposed" three exoplanets: most likely, these are tiny stars

Astronomers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) report that three, and possibly four, planets

discovered by NASA's Kepler space telescope have been misclassified.to be little stars.

For the first time, scientists have discovered planets beyondour solar system almost 30 years ago. Since then, space missions have confirmed the existence of about 5,000 exoplanets in our galaxy alone. Also, astronomers have discovered another 5,000 candidate planets - objects that may be planets, but require analysis. Now the list has been reduced by at least three objects.

The scientists used the updated data torecheck the size of the planets. Three of them were simply too big to be planets. We are talking about objects Kepler-854b, Kepler-840b and Kepler-699b. Now their size is estimated at two to four Jupiters.

The fourth planet, Kepler-747b, at about 1.8times larger than Jupiter, which is comparable to the largest confirmed planets. But the object is too far from its star. At a great distance, a star cannot support a planet of this size. The researchers concluded that the status of Kepler-747b is questionable and more data is needed.
