According to scientists, these are traces by which the death of stars can be recorded.
The space between the stars is not
How these clouds form, interact anddisappear, is not fully understood. So a team of astronomers led by Juan Diego Soler of the Italian National Institute of Astrophysics (INAF) set out to study the structures they found in neutral atomic hydrogen.
The team used data collected by the HI4PI project, which conducted an all-sky survey to map neutral atomic hydrogen throughout the Milky Way.
Based on this data, the team usedan algorithm that is commonly used to analyze satellite photographs to reveal small structures in hydrogen that would be impossible to identify by eye.
These structures looked like thin filaments of gas and were mostly parallel to the plane of the galaxy.
According to the team, these are likely remnants of a large number of supernova explosions.As a result of this process, the gas rises and bubbles are formed, which burst when they reachof the galactic plane.
This, the team says, could change scientists' knowledge of how the dynamic processes that formed the Milky Way's disk work.
